I was quite devoted to it for many years before I lost the habit. Guess I was resting on my laurels, so to speak, by thinking I used to know (and do) it all.
My workout partner and I had a week with C.W., who trains people at police academies, the Virginia Heat basketball camp and local gyms. For a week, we met him every day after work for a session packed with an unbelievable amount and variety of exercises that we would never have thought of otherwise.
Then it would be back to an agility exercise, then active run, then core again and so forth.
He worked us pretty hard Monday, then took it easier Tuesday. We alternated, hard day, easier (did he say easier?) the next, for the week, to let our bodies rest.

You just soak in everything, and practice it like you should.
That competence can lead you, though, into getting complacent or stuck in a routine. In fact, if you used to work out at an expert level, you just take it all for granted and are in more danger of shortchanging yourself.
Working out with a trainer was like starting anew. Much of it I remember learning before but deciding not to do. Going through those moves again gave a fresh reminder that they are, indeed, challenging.
Some of these things I
