Massage Therapy Schools are abundant in the state of Florida, and each offers a course of study that imparts the right information and experience to become a well-trained, professional massage therapist. Massage Therapy students learn the basics of practical and theoretical skills, as well as the advanced technical skills that are needed by professionals in the healing art of massage therapy.

There are several approaches to massage therapy, and students can choose the styles of massage they are interested in studying. Massage Therapy courses will begin with classroom lectures in anatomy and physiology, and perhaps psychology. Additional lectures may cover such subjects as kinesiology, theory and practice of massage, pathology, hygiene, and first aid, before moving into the clinic, where students will learn and practice massage techniques under supervising instructors.

Students completing core courses may choose to specialize in various types of massage. Specializations can include rejuvenating styles, such as Shiatsu, Thai, Tui Na, Tai Ja, Swedish massage, or those designed for recovery from physical injury, such as clinical, sports, chair, and deep tissue massage. All massage therapy programs will include hands-on clinical practice, where students will hone their professional techniques and skills. Completion of massage therapy training often leads the student to explore other interesting fields of study, such as acupuncture and oriental medicine, and many others.

Florida Massage Therapy Schools can request state and national organizations to evaluate their school and program of study in massage for accreditation. It is highly recommended that students seek out accredited schools for their education in massage therapy. Diplomas and certificates from accredited Massage Therapy Schools are more highly valued than those from non-accredited schools. Accredited certification will be important in finding employment.

Upon graduation from Massage Therapy School, it is recommended that practitioners become licensed to practice. Contacting the Florida Department of Health will provide more information about Massage Therapy Schools in Florida and state regulations and requirements of massage therapists.
