Canadians looking to save on supermarket purchases now have their first, free, socially interactive grocery coupon site.

For the average family, food costs are second to housing expenses as a percentage of annual income. You probably can't cut your mortgage or rent payments, but you can trim your food bill.
GroceryAlerts compiles coupons from manufacturers and supermarkets in all provinces that can be downloaded and printed immediately. Interactive maps provide store locations, directions and specials. Plus, there are no forms to fill out.
In addition to featuring huge savings on grocery deals, the site provides coupons for health and beauty products, baby needs, cleaning and laundry supplies, restaurants, clothing, entertainment and pharmacy.
"At GroceryAlerts, you can find it all in one place, which saves time and money - two things parents need," said Genevi Toronto, who began using the site during its testing stage.
Users can tip other shoppers about hot deals or share strategies for feeding a family on a budget.
"I enjoy grocery shopping, and I'm passionate about saving money with coupons," said GroceryAlerts founder Steven Zussino. "This was such a great idea - especially making the site socially interactive - that I wanted to share it with all Canadians."
Coupons from the Internet are the fastest-growing segment of the coupon world -redemption increased 140 percent in 2008, according to the coupon-processing company Inmar.
