OK, Seriously what's with all the cookie diets that keep popping up everywhere? Do the cookies really taste great and are they really a healthy way to lose weight?
I've taken a look at three such diet cookie plans and here's how they crumble:
1. Dr. Siegel's Cookie Diet
Dr. Siegel's diet cookies have been around for a while now. He originally made the cookies for his patients at his Miami clinic who had trouble controlling their cravings, and choosing healthy snacks.
Dieters eat 6 cookies per day which contain 90 calories each.
5 flavors including: Chocolate, Oatmeal Raisin, Coconut, Banana, and Blueberry.
Cookies contain low glycemic index ingredients.
Cookies can be added to other diet plans.
Dr. Siegal's plan averages around 800 calories a day.
A high protein low fat dinner is recommended.
A weeks supply of cookies costs $59.00. Dr. Siegel now offers a line of shakes, supplements, and teas as well. As for the taste of the cookies they have had mixed results. Some describe them as tasteless saw dust, while other's say they're great.
2. Smart for Life Cookie Diet
As part of their weight loss services, Smart for Life also offers diet cookies as a way to control calories throughout the day.
Dieters eat 6 diet cookies a day which are 105 calories each.
Three flavors to choose from: Chocolate, Oatmeal Raisin, and Blueberry.
Smart for life averages 800 to 1200 calories a day.
A low fat dinner with 5 cups of vegetables is recommended daily.
A week's supply costs $55.80 if four weeks are purchased, which gives one free week.
Cookies are made with 60% organic ingredients.
Smart for Life also encourages dieters to use their other products such as supplements, meals, and consultation services available at centers around the USA. This will greatly increase the cost of the program. Again mixed reviews on the taste and texture. Since they're diet cookies, I wouldn't expect them to taste like Nestle Toll House, would you?
3. The Hollywood Cookie Diet
As the new kid on the block, The Hollywood Cookie Diet has taken a different approach to selling their diet cookies. They offer them on-line as well as at retailers such as Ralphs and Walgreens.
Dieters are to consume 4 diet cookies throughout the day, and they have around 150 calories each.
Three flavors to choose from: Chocolate Chip, Lemon, and Oatmeal Raisin.
An 800 calorie low fat dinner is recommended for a max of 1200 calories a day.
A week supply costs about $25.00, depending on consumption.
The Hollywood Cookie Diet is just one of the several products they offer, such as the 48 hour Miracle Diet, and the 24 Hour Miracle Diet .Hmm does anyone else's gimmick detector go off with this one? Of the three, these diet cookies have the best taste reviews, but looking at the ingredients they appear to be higher in sugar and sucralose than the other varieties.
Cookie Diet Conclusions
In theory diet cookies seem like an easy way to lose weight. However, in the practical sense many report boredom eating the same thing all the time, and meal replacement plans always seem to fall short in the long run as dieters never learn to make everyday healthy meal choices. These plans also fail to address the root causes of overeating.
Besides, diet cookies sure haven't done much for the Cookie Monster's figure, now have they?
