Dr. Julie Yang and Alexander Shih were married Saturday evening at the Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park, in Manhattan. The Rev. Isaac Lim, a Presbyterian minister, officiated.
The bride and bridegroom met at New York University, from which they both graduated, she cum laude.
The bride, 34, is keeping her name. She is a gastroenterologist and an enteroscopy research fellow at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. She received a medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
She is the daughter of Joo Hee Yang and Dong Joo Yang of Paramus, N.J. Her father retired as a professor of political science at Kyung Hee University in Seoul. Her mother owns and operates Marcel's Cleaners in Jersey City and is also a columnist for The Korea Daily.
Mr. Shih, 33, works in Manhattan as a senior vice president for Morgan Keegan & Company, a Memphis bank. He is an investment banker who helps issue federal, state and municipal bonds. He received an M.B.A. from Columbia.
The bridegroom is a son of Shu-Hung Shih and Liang-Jao Shih of Woodhaven, Queens. His mother retired as a registered nurse at the former Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan. His father, also retired, was an executive director of the privatization division of the Chinese Petroleum Corporation in Taipei, Taiwan.
