Kitchener man charged after domestic dispute, standoff with police

KITCHENER - A 40-year-old Kitchener man has been charged with assault with a weapon and forcible confinement following a standoff on Strasburg Road Friday.
Waterloo Regional Police were called shortly before 6 p.m. to investigate an assault.
Police allege the man got into a fight with a female family member before assaulting her and threatening her with a knife. She received minor injuries and was treated in hospital.
The man barricaded himself in the home for a brief period of time after police arrived and set up a command post. The man surrendered without incident after negotiating with police.
He was arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and forcible confinement.
He was held for a court appearance.
