Boost Your Health and Improve Your Love Life - Five Easy Ways!
View PDF | Print View
We are probably all aware that we should maintain a healthy diet, moderate our alcohol intake and exercise regularly to stay healthy, but did you know that there is one thing that affects us all that often goes unmentioned when it comes to health matters - stress. Stress is all around us and is part of our everyday lives, but if it is left unchecked over a period of time it can wreak havoc with your health and leave your love life in turmoil. When we are stressed, our bodies go into a sort of primitive "survival mode" - several hormones including cortisol and adrenalin are released which cause our blood pressure and heart rate to rise, our digestive activity to be suspended and blood to be diverted to our muscles and skin. Our body is preparing us for fight or flight! The body is designed to withstand short periods of acute stress with no ill effects, but if you are undergoing long periods of persistent stress, the hormone levels will remain elevated and the body will remain in a constant state of vigilance. The accumulative effect of frequent and persistent stress causes the body's reserves to become depleted and eventually leads to serious illness. Exposing yourself to prolonged periods of stress can lead to headaches, fatigue, muscular pains, digestive problems and appetite changes, but it can also seriously lower your libido. Stress can undermine your confidence and take up valuable time and energy which could otherwise be spent with your partner. In addition, you may be distracted by worries and unable to focus on your partner's needs, and during tense times the body is in survival mode, so any thoughts of procreation go out of the window! Taking steps to reduce the stress in your life can therefore not only improve your health, but work wonders for your love life. Here are five easy ways to get you started. 1. Talk about your problems. Talking is a great stress reliever which can bring you closer to your friends or partner and alleviate feelings of loneliness. 2. Massage has a soothing effect on the mind and body and is a great way to relieve stress. Visit a qualified therapist, or learn basic techniques with your partner. It will bring you closer and provide an opportunity for intimacy. 3. Take a bath. A long hot soak in the tub is an excellent way to unwind and escape for some quiet time. Try adding some luxurious bubbles and lighting a few candles, and let the heat of the water and the ambient atmosphere soak away your stress. You can always invite your partner to scrub your back! 4. Sleep. Lack of sleep can contribute to stress, and stress can cause a lack of sleep. Make sure you are getting the amount your body needs. 5. Take regular exercise. This will help metabolize the stress hormones and increase your energy, as well as improving your physique and self-esteem.
