ABMH Plans Strengthening of Facilities

Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital (ABMH), located in Pimpri-Chinchwad on the outskirts of Pune, is expanding its facilities. To begin with, it is scaling up its commissioned bed strength from 250 to 300 beds, out of 500 installed bed capacity. These beds would be added in segments like ICU, CCU, HDU, NICU, PICU as well as the wards.
ABMH is also strengthening its multiple departments. It is planning to build a separate comprehensive wing of 25,000 square feet for oncology, where it would house medical, surgical and radiation oncology and facilities for bone marrow transplantation."This unit would start after a year," says Dr SP Singh, CEO, ABMH. "For the first phase of the unit, we are spending Rs 28 crore to start the radiation oncology department, which would have a linear accelerator with IGRT and brachytherapy," he adds.
The department of interventional cardiology, which is conducting procedures like angiography, complex coronary and peripheral angioplasties, balloon valvoloplasties for dual chamber and biventricular pacemaker implantation and device closure of heart defects, is soon starting an electro-physiology studies and radiofrequency ablation procedures. The orthopaedics department, which has special clinics for knee, shoulder and sports injuries, osteoporosis, paediatric orthopaedics, is now starting a dedicated back-ache clinic. This centre is already recognised for arthroscopic and joint replacement surgeries. The department of nephrology which offers 'one-stop' treatment for management of nephrotic to nephritic syndromes, from acute kidney injury to chronic kidney diseases, etc and is facilitated with procedures like CRRT, SLED, HD, PD, and transplant, is adding four more hemo-dialysis machines to the existing twelve.
The hospital, which has recently started an obesity clinic for counseling obese people, is also planning to start bariatric surgery soon. "We would offer gastric banding and bypass in bariatric surgery," says Dr Singh. The obesity clinic is also planning for the access of various other weight loss options which can be done by the experts all under one roof.
With an endeavour to provide holistic healing, the Centre for Preventive Health of the hospital always had a wellness clinic. Now, it is revamping the wellness clinic by introducing a medi-spa and a parlour. Says Rekha Dubey, Senior GM, Operations, ABMH, "Being located close to the IT hub at Pune, the IT employees with high-stress jobs would serve as good client base for spa and wellness." The hospital is exploring the possibility of tying up with a professional group for managing the spa and wellness unit. ABMH is also starting a comprehensive cosmetic clinic with services of dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons and dieticians. The department of cosmetology is starting laser technology for facial skin rejuvenation, hair reduction etc and also other anti-ageing treatments like botox fillers etc. The hospital is consciously shifting its focus from a mix of part and full-time consultants. "With more full-time consultants, hospital enjoys the comfort of better professional commitment towards patient satisfaction," informed Dubey.
The hospital is also starting a state-of-the-art IVF lab, soon. Said Dr Anil Chittake, infertility expert, ABMH, "Our IVF lab would have high standard air quality thus meeting the European and class 10,000 requirements for air quality. The IVF unit is equipped with latest equipments and has dedicated triple gas incubators for embryo culture."
Being located off Express Way, the hospital does get a steady stream of road accident victims. The hospital is thus adding six more ambulances in addition to its present four ambulances. These ambulances are also attached to a string of stabilisation centers in the periphery of Pune. The hospital is planning to go for both NABH and JCI soon.
