That's how Curves co-owner Elissa Bennett describes her independently owned fitness center, which features more than a dozen machines aimed at targeting all points of the body in an aerobic and weight-training program.
The facility, designed for women, seeks to strengthen or tone muscle groups with short bursts of hydraulic resistance -- the more you work the machines, the harder they get -- and allows time in between to recover with aerobic exercises.
The 30-minute circuit program, which is set to music and features voice prompts to switch machines, also utilizes CurvesSmart technology, a system that saves each client's range of motion and strength and calculates the intensity of each machine.
"It's almost like having a buddy with you because you're getting constant feedback before and after the workout,'' Bennett said of CurvesSmart, which is used exclusively by the fitness-club chain.
Powered by a portable microchip that can be inserted into each piece of equipment, the system also shows a variety of computerized data at the end of each workout, such as how many calories were burned and how efficiently the machines were used.
That means the personalized program, in a half hour, can help women start to shed pounds, drop dress sizes or regain strength. Bennett said clients can burn from 180 to 600 calories during a session.
"This workout, it would be for all ages,'' co-owner Jerri Hochron said.
Curves also has a free weight-management program and provides diet supplements and exercise attire. The facility accepts health insurance to cover some, part or all of the gym membership, and staff members help monitor blood pressure, body mass index, heart rate and other measures to support women in reaching their goals.
The local Curves also has been recognized as a Shining Star branch for outstanding quality and service.
Bennett, wearing a T-shirt that said, "Don't underestimate the power of this woman!'' said her staff empowers women through safe exercise.
"People are looking for the fountain of youth, and this is it,'' she said.
