Army Sgt. Jonathan M. Cobb has been awarded the Army Achievement Medal for participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The medal is awarded to soldiers who have served in any capacity in an area authorized by the Secretary of the Army. The recipients must have distinguished themselves by meritorious service or achievement while acting on behalf of the Army.
Cobb, a training and retention supervisor, is assigned to the 168th Brigade Support Battalion at Camp Liberty in Iraq. He has served in the military for nine years.
He is the son of Wilbert and Laura M. Cobb of Clearwater and graduated in 1998 from Dunedin High School.

Marine Corps Pvt. Glynn D. Long Jr. has completed 12 weeks of basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, S.C.
In addition to physical conditioning, Mayer spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments that included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat, weapons training, field training and instruction on the Marine Corps core values.
Mayer ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour, team evolution culminating in a ceremony in which recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem.
Long is the son of Glynn Long Sr. and Dianne Holston, both of Clearwater. He is a 2005 graduate of Largo High School.

Lloyd Galbraith has been promoted to Marine Corps lance corporal.
He is serving his second year in Iraq.
Galbraith is the son of Tracy Vitiello and grandson of Bonnie Theall, both of Dunedin.
He is a 2006 graduate of Dunedin High School.

Navy Seaman Melissa L. Milliron has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Milliron completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
She also participated in Battle Stations, an exercise that gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.
Milliron is a 1993 graduate of Countryside High School in Clearwater.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Sydni M. Burnett has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Burnett completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
She also participated in Battle Stations, an exercise that gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.
Burnett is the granddaughter of Evelyn E. Presley of Clearwater.
She is a 2007 graduate of Palm Harbor University High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Christopher Wright has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Wright is receiving his technical training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., after which he will be deployed to Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Wright is the son of Janice Wright of Dunedin and Robert Wright of Palm Harbor.

Air Force Capt. Thomas E. Hallis Jr. has deployed to Southwest Asia to support the missions of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, and the Combined Task Force-Horn of Africa. He will be part of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing.
Hallis, a chief nurse, has served in the military for 10 years.
He is the son of Tom E. Hallis Sr. of Clearwater and brother of Bob Hallis of Cleveland.
The captain graduated in 1976 from John Marshall High School in Cleveland and received a bachelor s degree in 1991 from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Ill.
