Exercise Beyond Gadgets

A few years ago when health conditions forced me to exercise, one of the scariest thoughts was that of going to the gym everyday. I know I was not the first person to be gym-scared. Neither was I the first one to use another excuse other than the right one to explain why it's not feasible.

Most people don't like to show their "novicehood" in public. Even with a good trainer, it feels odd the first time you pull the bulk of your unfitness into that place filled with machines, mirrors, and menacing glances of people. Some gym patrons do seem to silently entertain themselves by your inexperience or try to visually lecture you on their experience with iron-pumping.

Exercise for a big reason
With simple exercise at home, using nothing except my own body weight and a towel, I was able to lower my A1c to 5.3; that's lower than the normal average of 5.7. Not too long ago, a doctor had threatened to put me on insulin.

Talk about a motivation to begin a regular exercise program! As a diabetic, I had a big reason to start an exercise program, and an equally "big" reason to not go to a gym... I didn't like my "look and feel" while I was in the gym.

Putting the bars behind me
I found out that it was easy to exercise and develop strength in the muscles that I haven't been using all these years. By simply walking 45-60 minutes everyday, doing simple aerobic, strength, and flexibility routines, I have been able to lower my blood sugar and cut my dependence on medication.

It's been amazing. I have never felt so good in years. In fact, I feel blessed that I developed, and realized that I had, type 2 diabetes. The exercise and healthy lifestyle habits that I have neglected for years are now part of my life.

It was rough at first, especially going without a fitness club membership - which I could have almost for free by taking advantage of a company subsidy. But no, I did it my way. I went beyond the gadgets, past the machines, and on my own time.

One thing is sure, it's much easier to do jump rope without the rope, and I have found that a simple bath towel is one of the best piece of exercise equipment there is. Maybe someone you know: somebody who might be "crowd-shy" or too busy to get to the gym could go beyond the gadgets for a change.

It works!

Additional information:

Exercise must become one of those things that you do without question, like bathing and. How often, how long and how hard you exercise, and what kinds of.
