Tea has started wars. Diplomats have signed peace treaties while drinking it. And now it is fighting for the consumer market since Americans have learned of all its antioxidant-rich properties.

At the Fancy Food Show in San Francisco a few weeks ago, a tea purveyor set up shop on almost every row and aisle at the Moscone Center. And tea is no longer just a hot drink. It has inspired snack foods, mints, even cocktails. Here is some of what we saw at the show.

Tea for health

Republic of Tea from Novato has a line of teas it claims is customized for pregnant moms, immunity, stress relief, libido, constipation, weight control and digestion. With creative labeling although directed toward clear skin, who wouldn't want to drink the "Get Gorgeous" rendition? each has a rooibos base with other herbal additions. $10 for 36 tea bags. Available at www.republicoftea.com or Whole Foods.

Tea as cocktails

Zhena's Gypsy Tea from Ojai introduced a line of teas made for alcoholic drinks. A bag of the mojito mint, for example, is first steeped in spiced rum, then mixed with fresh mint leaves, sugar, lime juice and soda for a tropical cocktail. The other versions are berry bellini, strawberry kiwi, coconut rum and papaya mango. A tin costs $7.99. Available starting in March at Whole Foods and www.gypsytea.com

Tea on the go

Rishi Tea from Milwaukee offers tea powders so you can have tea wherever you are. Each packet of tea leaves cold-milled into a fine powder can be mixed with 17 ounces of hot or cold water. There are three types genmai green, green oolong and sencha. A box of 12 packets costs $8 and is available at Whole Foods or www.rishi-tea.com

Tea as a refreshment

Tea Fort from Concord, Mass., doesn't just offer a high-quality iced tea; it offers a way to make it in style. The company that made tea beautiful created a brewing pitcher in which ice sits in a lower compartment while hot tea is steeped in the upper compartment. When the tea is ready, it is poured over the ice, flash-chilling it to lock in flavor and freshness, the company claims. The brewing pitcher costs $42. The teas white ginger pear, raspberry nectar, pomegranate blackberry and Ceylon gold cost $24 for 12 infusers. Available at www.teaforte.com
