A woman's weight is an almost constant concern, especially if they are overweight. Which is probably why diets and dieting is such big business.

You can't open a newspaper or magazine with out some mention of someone putting on weight, losing weight or starting some bizarre new diet. We put such a lot of emphasis on how we look and larger people are not looked at favourably, so to feel accepted we tend to need to fit in and be slim or slimmer.

For health issues we are encouraged to lose weight and to be more active by sensible methods that are even sometimes monitored by a health professional. However with trying to lose weight yourself we are seduced in to trying what ever new "fad" is fashionable at that time - usually a diet that a celebrity has had a huge success with!

Diet plans take on many different forms, counting calories, low fat, no carbs, detox, soups, raw foods. Which ever you choose you must remember that exercise is also an important part of any diet.

If you take in more calories than you burn off you will not lose weight. You should always take medical advice before starting any diet plan and should choose a method that incorporates sensible eating and healthy foods. You should not crash diet and should aim to lose 1-2lbs a week only.

You should really change the way you eat to a manageable healthy style that you can sustain for life. Otherwise once you stop a strict, rigid diet and go back to the way you ate before, you will very quickly put the weight back on. However you choose to lose the extra weight be realistic about your goals.
