One of the biggest misunderstandings is that cholesterol and triglycerides is same thing and that there are no differences so ever. The reality is different because even though that share some similarities they are completely different things. However, in order to maintain a good health one must know to make a difference when it comes to triglycerides and cholesterol levels.

There are several similarities between triglycerides and cholesterol levels. First of all they are both "lipids" and none of them can be dissolved in the blood. Both of them in order to move through the blood need to be carried by a protein that is called lipoprotein. Both are managed by the liver. And they both can be controlled with the help of exercises and a diet. The absence and presence of both them can mean the difference between living and dying. Cholesterol and triglycerides levels need to be taken very serious and they can be considered as some sort of indicators of present and future disease.

The differences are much bigger than the similarities. Cholesterol is not a fat even though that is classified as one. It is more of a fat - like substance that is made of two other substances. LDL and HDL are the two components that form cholesterol. The main goal of the cholesterol is to produce steroid hormones, such as estrogen for women and testosterone when it comes to men. Digesting fat and processing vitamin D are two other things that cholesterol does. On the other hand Triglycerides are there to provide essential fatty acids that are necessary for the human body to function normally. The fatty acids are responsible for producing and storing energy. Plus that fatty is used for insulating the human body as well as for protecting the internal organs from injuries.

Sometimes it might happen to have high cholesterol and on the other hand to have normal triglyceride levels. Sometimes it can be the opposite or it can easily be that both of the levels to be of the chart. Regardless of what might be the main thing that you need to do is to do a consult with a physician and start from there. In meantime the best way to avoid blood fats is if you eat more foods such as: vegetables, fruits, fish, whole grain, flaxseed and oats. You should avoid foods that can increase your blood fats such as animal products, concentrated sweets and refined carbs. The thing is that the better you will feed yourself the healthier you will be.
