Big Boyz Toyz arrive in Franklin

The cars in the storage building at Franklin Business Park are lined end-to-end, most as shiny as the day they rolled off the assembly line, while a few remain covered by dull, gray car covers.

These are not ordinary cars, easily found on the new and used car lots sprinkled throughout Franklin, though these are the cars of which dreams are made.

"This could be one of the more exciting things to happen to Franklin," said Regal Auction's Paul Morrissette Jr. who assembled the collection of vintage automobiles, including a 1963 powder blue Corvette convertible with 100 original miles and a bright yellow Dodge Charger 440.

In what Morrissette hopes to be the first of many, the Big Boyz Toyz Auction will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, bringing car, motorcycle and gun buffs from all over New England to bid on one of the many bargains he has assembled.

Morrissette said he has operated an antiques auction out of his Central Street store for about 20 years but realized a few years ago that the antiques market was growing soft.

He said he began to specialize in Danish teak and rosewood furniture from the 1960s and, during one of his many buying trips to Denmark, he chanced upon some "car guys" in one of the local night spots.

"These car guys wanted American muscle," said Morrissette who, upon his return to the states, began assembling muscle cars in groups of three and four for sale in Denmark.

"Well, one day, the trailer came late," said Morrisette, explaining that the trailer with the four cars came on a certain day and on all the others, his mainstream construction liquidation auction took priority. "The guys who came for the construction auction were ogling at all the cars."

Morrissette began doing some research and determined there was no major muscle car auction in the Northern New England States and only one or two smaller ones in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Since he already had a federal firearms license, the idea for Big Boyz Toyz was born.

Beginning Friday night with a cruise night, Morrissette said Saturday's auction will include 80 to 100 vintage cars, 80 to 100 motorcycles and about 250 guns.

"This is the trifecta of testosterone," said Morrissette with a grin.

All the merchandise can be previewed today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the auction begins at 11 a.m.

Financing representatives will be on hand as well as food vendors.

The auction will be in the large parking lot behind Central Street near the Franklin Business Park.
